Head of Education - Maddie Bowen

Maddie is our Head of Education, she has a First Class BA Hons degree in Music from Liverpool University and a PGCE teaching qualification from Edgehill University in the UK. She has been teaching for 10 years and is currently a full time volunteer with Greater Action.

She has developed a four-tier conversational English scheme of work for young adult refugees. A programme specifically designed for the community's needs and tailored to be delivered online via online devices. Each level is a ten-week course with twenty lessons as total and devliered via Zoom. She has created and curated lesson plans, detailed slides, exemplar videos and assessment quizzes for volunteers and students. Greater Action Academy has been successfully rolled out to 100+ students and we are now on our third round of teaching since March 2020.

She has recruited, trained and supported nine experienced teachers for live sessions, seven teachers for 1:1 cases and over twenty conversational English tutorial volunteers. We currently have 50+ students enrolled and a full waiting list.

Alongside this, she supports the Project Director with fundraising, donations drives and the tailoring and food projects.
